I wanted a baby — no strings, no messy emotions. Just a donor I could trust — my best friend. He didn’t hesitate or ask why. He said yes… with one condition: no clinics, no cold procedures. Just him — his bed, his way. I should have said no. But I wanted this. And I didn’t realise how much I wanted him. I told myself I could handle it — keep my heart locked tight. But the moment he touched me, all those lies fell apart. Now I’m falling — for a man who never promised me anything but his body. And my deepest desire risks becoming my darkest downfall. But now there’s no turning back.
Axel
She asked me to give her a baby. No love. No future. Just a piece of me. I’m not a good man. I’m not the kind you build a life with. But this… this was my one chance to touch heaven and pretend it wouldn’t burn me alive. So I took her. Over and over. Knowing she’ll never be mine. But now I’m addicted. Possessive. I don’t want just her body — I want her soul. Her future. Her everything. And when she walks away — like we both know she will — it’ll break me. Because I’d give her the world… But I’ll never be worthy of it.'
So I want to start this review being honest with you as my readers. I was sent this book as part of this Author's ARC readers program however all thoughts and opinion stated in this review are my own and were not influenced.
Axel is a tattooed security company owner with a troubled past that still shapes how he sees himself. Beneath his tough exterior, he’s been quietly carrying feelings for Taylor since they were young—feelings he doesn’t believe he deserves to act on.
Taylor, on the other hand, is a confident and successful businesswoman who owns a chain of elite clubs. She’s always been focused and independent, but after watching her younger sister find love, she begins to question whether she might want more—particularly a child, even if that means becoming a single mum.
While staying on a private island after Sadie and Theo’s wedding, Taylor starts to see Axel in a new light. What begins as a practical (and unconventional) arrangement quickly turns into something far more complicated as their long-standing friendship crosses into new territory.
This book leans heavily into popular romance tropes—best friends to lovers, “he falls first,” childhood trauma, and a broody male lead—and delivers them in a way that’s easy to get swept up in. The chemistry between Taylor and Axel is strong, and their emotional journey feels engaging as they navigate both their pasts and their growing feelings.
It’s a fast-paced, addictive read—I went from casually picking it up to not wanting to put it down within a couple of chapters. Watching these two characters figure out what they really mean to each other is both satisfying and compelling.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and easy-to-devour romance, and I’m definitely looking forward to the third instalment.
From my cozy corner to yours,
